Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the consolidation of a captured position, his company was suffering heavy casualties from a machine gun in a strong point about 100 yards ahead. He went forward, rushed the positiion single handed, and captured the machine gun and nine prisoners. He showed splendid courage and initiative.'
