Military Medal 'On the 3rd October 1917, whilst the 55th and 114th Batteries were in action East of YPRES they were subjected to very heavy hostile fire causing numerous casualties in each Battery. No. 4311 Private R. AUSTIN A.A.M.C. without hesitation, went to the guns looking for the wounded and rendered first aid where ever necessary. His task was performed and completed under heavy shell fire and at great personal risk. His example of courage and devotion to duty are deserving of special recognition.'
