War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 28 July 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 14 September 1916. Found guilty, Rollestone, 6 October 1916, of being absent without leave, midnight, 5 October, to 7 am, 6 October 1916, and neglecting to obey standing orders: reverted to the ranks and awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 31 December 1916; taken on strength, 21st Bn, 26 January 1917. Wounded in action, France, 25 February 1917 (gun shot wound, right elbow); admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 25 February 1917; transferred to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 27 February 1917; to England, 10 March 1917, and admitted to Royal Victorian Hospital, Netley, 11 March 1917; to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 24 May 1917; discharged on furlough, 14 June 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 28 June 1917.
