'At BULLECOURT on 11th April 1917 this Non Commissioned Officer showed extreme bravery and devotion to his comrades; after the retirement he went out into NO MAN'S LAND and brought in the wounded under enemy barrage and machine gun fire and he was the means of saving many wounded men.'
