Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He showed great gallantry in leading his men, and personally repairing broken telephone lines under very heavy fire. He set a fine example throughout.

He was in charge of a cable burying party, and late of all communications forward from cable head. He showed great courage, energy and powers of organization in maintaining communication, and personally led parties to repair lines under heavy fire. It was mainly due to his untiring efforts that the communications of the division were kept up during the operations.'
