Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at Herleville Wood, 23 August, 1918. As stretcher bearer, he did fine work dressing and carrying the wounded. Later, in spite of suffering from the effects of gas, he attended to many casualties. His endurance was only equalled by his courage.'
