Embarked Sydney on 'Ascanius', 25 October 1916; disembarked Devonport, 28 December 1916, and marched into 5th Training Bn, Rollestone, 29 December 1916.

Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 4 February 1917; transferred to Sutton Veny Hospital, Wilts, 15 February 1917 (bronchitis); marched into 5th Training Bn from Southern Leeds Hospital, Bristol, 3 March 1917.

Found guilty at Shrewton, 14 March 1917, of (1) drunkenness, and (2) disobedience to orders in being out of bounds, 29 January 1917: awarded 4 days' confinement to quarters. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 29 May 1917; marched into 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 30 May 1917.

Found guilty, 11 June 1917, of (1) drunkenness, and (2) being absent without leave, 9.30 am, 8 June, until apprehended at 11.00 pm, 8 June 1917: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 1; forfeited total of 28 days' pay; marched into 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Havre, and moved out to field, 28 June 1917; joined 20th Bn, 2 July 1917.

Found guilty, 4 July 1917, of drunkenness, 30 June 1917: awarded 4 days' confinement to barracks.

Found guilty at Weymouth, 21 September 1918, of neglecting to obey AIF orders 2256 in that he was found in Weymouth without a pass, 2.00 am, 20 September 1918; awarded a fine of 2 days' pay; forfeited total of 2 days' pay. Found guilty, at Weymouth 8 October 1918, of neglecting to obey AIF order 2256 in that he was in Weymouth without a pass, 10.45 pm, 6 October 1918; awarded 7 days' confinement to barracks.

Commenced return to Australi on HT 'Gaika', 8 November 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 29 December 1918, for onward travel to Sydney. Discharged Sydney, 22 February 1919.
