'On the 16th, 17th and 18th October, 1917, while working on a duckwalk track between Brigade Headquarters and ZONNEBEKE, these sappers on three separate occasions volunteered to repair the track where it had a few moments before been broken by shell fire, and where it was still being shelled. It was owing to their courage, disregard of danger, and initiative that this means of communication was kept in good order and the carrying back of wounded and transport of stores to the front line was greatly facilitated.'
