Admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 16 December 1916 (diphtheria); transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 22 December 1916 (tonsillitis); to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 27 December 1916; discharged and marched in to 2nd Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 29 December 1916; rejoined unit, 3 March 1917.

Wounded in action and admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 3 May 1917; transferred to 3rd Australian Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 4 May 1917 (gun shot wound to back); to England, 15 May 1917; admitted to Richmond Military Hospital, England, 17 May 1917; discharged from hospital and granted leave, 30 May 1917.

Marched in, from leave, to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 14 June 1917; marched in to Overseas Training Depot, Perham Downs, 26 June 1917.

Found guilty, 23 July 1917, of being absent without leave from 9:30 pm, 17 July to 8:00 pm, 18 July 1917: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2 and forfeited 20 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides', 3 September 1919; disembarked Sydney, 24 October 1919; discharged, 23 December 1919.
