Embarked Melbourne, 25 October 1916. Found guilty, at sea, 4 December 1916, of failing to appear at embarkation on time: awarded 14 days' detention. Disembarked Plymouth, England, 28 December 1916; marched in to Perham Downs Command Depot, 29 December 1916; proceeded overseas to France, 28 January 1917; marched in to Australian General Base Depot, Etaples, France, 29 January 1917; taken on strength of 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company, 6 February 1917. Found guilty, 21 May 1917, of (1) braking open arrest and (2) being absent from parade: awarded 28 days Field Punishment No 1 and forfeited 28 days' pay. 'Blue Chevrons due', 25 October 1917. Wounded in action and admitted to 2nd Canadian Field Ambulance, 17 February 1918; discharged to duty, 20 February 1918; rejoined unit from hospital, 22 February 1918. On leave, 5 December 1918 to 19 December 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 24 December 1918; marched out for demobilisation, 27 January 1919; marched in to Sutton Veny Command Depot from France, 4 February 1919.
