'While the 54th Battery was in action on the 4th October 1917, during the operations East of YPRES, ammunition dumps were set on fire on three occasions. No. 59 Sergeant W. FLEMING immediately rushed over to the dumps, pulled away the burning camouflage and, throwing away the damaged rounds clear of the dump, prevented the loss of some hundreds of rounds of ammunition at a time when his Battery was short and the transport of ammunition very difficult. The courageous action of this N.C.O. is deserving of special recognition.'
