Admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance, 16 March 1917 (weak heart); transferred to 2nd Division Rest Station, 17 March 1917 (pleurisy); discharged to duty, 24 March 1917.

Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 25 March 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin), and transferred same day to 2nd Division Rest Station; discharged to duty, 5 April 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 6 April 1917.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 30 April 1917 (pleurisy), and transferred same day to Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train, 6 May 1917, and admitted to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, 31 May 1917; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 31 May 1917; to Base Depot, 30 July 1917.

On leave to England, 7 August 1917; rejoined Base Depot from leave, 27 August 1917.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 20 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left thigh and hip); admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 September 1917; transferred same day to 10th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to Ambulance Train No 14; admitted to 3rd General Hospital, Le Treport, 23 September 1917. Transferred to England, 25 September 1917, and admitted to Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, 26 September 1917 (wound severe); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 29 October 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 2 November 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Kenilworth Castle', 12 March 1918; transshipped to HT 'Feldmarschall', Durban, South Africa, 23 April 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 22 May 1918, for onward travel to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit), Brisbane, 30 June 1918.
