War service: Western Front Tried by Field General Court Martial, France, 9 May 1917; found Guilty of being absent without Leave, 22-27 April 1917. Sentenced to 6 months' imprisonment with hard labour. Total forfeiture of pay: 201 days. Tried by Field General Court Martial, 28 June 1917; found Guilty of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he in the field on or about 20 June 1917 mutilated his paybook which it was his duty to preserve. Sentenced to forfeit pay for 60 days. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orsova', 8 January 1919; discharged, Hobart, 10 April 1919.
