Embarked Sydney,5 June 1916; admitted to Ship's Hospital, 30 June 1918 (venereal disease); discharged, 9 July 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 10 days; disembarked Liverpool, England, 11 August 1918. Marched into Reserve Bde Australian Artillery, Hetesbury, 12 August 1918. Admitted to Sutton Veny Military Hospital, 19 August 1918 (not yet diagnosed); discharged, 2 September 1918, and marched into Reserve Bde Australian Artillery, Hetesbury, the same day. Admitted to Sutton Veny Military Hospital, 9 October 1918 (influenza, and pneumonia); seriously ill, 14 October 1918. Died, Sutton Veny Military Hospital, 20 October 1918. Buried, St John the Evangelist Churchyard, 24 October 1918. Medal: British War Medal. Report to relatives, 25 October 1918, stated: 'The deceased was buried with full military honours. [The coffin draped with the Australian flag was conveyed to the graveside on a Gun Carriage which was preceded by a Firing Party and Band from the Australian Artillery Reserve Brigade. Six of [the] deceased's comrades supported the Pall. The funeral was attended by 2 Officers and about N.C.O.s and Men of the Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery. Wreaths from Major and Mrs A.B. Stott [sister, of Westcliffe on Sea] and Mrs J. Kibby [friend, of London] were placed on the grave after the Last Post had been sounded. Headquarters AIF Depots in the United Kingdom were represented.' Chaplain C.P. Brown officiated. |
