Taken on strength, 1st Bn, Gallipoli, 2 May 1915. Wounded in action, 20 May 1915; transferred to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 31 May 1915; rejoined unit, 16 August 1915. Evacuated from Gallipoli, disembarked Alexandria, 28 December 1915. Transferred to 53rd Bn, 13 February 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 6 August 1916. Wounded in action (second occasion), 7 June 1917; rejoined unit, 16 June 1917. Wounded in action (third occasion), 23 September 1917; discharged to duty, 27 September 1917.

Commenced return to Australia, 1 August 1919.
