Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative in command of a platoon during the operation ner Le Verquier north west of St. Quentin, on 18th September 1918. On reaching his objective, he left a small party to mop up the trench, and, with the remainder of his platoon, moved ahead, when he encountered a strong party of the enemy. With his Lewis gun be brought fire to bear on them, all of whom became casualties or surrendered.'
