Proceeded overseas to France, 23 November 1916. Admitted to hospital, 2 June 1917 (influenza); rejoined unit, 14 June 1917. Admitted to hospital, 24 March 1918 (not yet diagnosed); discharged from 39th General Hospital, Le Havre, 29 April 1918, after 31 days' treatment for venereal disease; rejoined unit, 5 May 1918.

Wounded in action, 10 August 1918 (gassed); admitted to 2nd Canadian General Hospital, 12 August 1918; rejoined unit, 29 October 1918.

Marched out to England, 14 April 1919; commenced return to Australia on board 'Leicestershire', 3 May 1919; disembarked, Melbourne, 21 June 1919; discharged, 13 September 1919.
