Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his platoon commander became a casualty he took command and cleared out two large dugouts, taking about fifty prisoners. On reaching the final objective he established a forward machine gun post in face of heavy machine gun fire. His organizing capacity and skilful leadership were a great asset.'
