Meritorious Service Medal

'Throughout the period 16th September - 31st December 1918 and for the previous year this W.O. has rendered loyal and valuable service in the Brigade Office, and his knowledge, energy and careful work have been of the greatest assistance to the staff. His natural desire was to qualify for a commission in a Battalion but when it was pointed out to him that he was rather old for a Subaltern, and that his services were of more value as Orderly Room Sergeant, he cheerfully sacrificed his ambition for the good of the service, and continued to serve in the more humble capacity.'
