Military Medal 'Throughout the whole operation he repeatedly through his bravery and initiative brought himself under my notice. Particularly on the night of the 25th September 1917 when the Battalion was moving into position for the attack, owing to the heavy barrage which they had to come through parties into their positions frequently going through enemy barrage to do so. On another occasion when 60th Battalion were attacking some strong points our ammunition was running short, he volunteered to guide a party back to the ammunition dump some 1000 yards in rear and through the enemy machine gun fire he succeeded in bringing back his party with a much needed supply of trench mortar shells. This man's work throughout was a splendid example of fearlessness and his work in acting as a guide was of the greatest value.'
