War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide on HMAT 'Anchises', 28 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 11 October 1916, and marched into 11th Training Btn, Durrington. Found guilty, 30 October 1916, of (1) neglect of duty and (2) disobedience of orders: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited total of 14 days' pay. Transferred to 42nd Bn and taken on strength, 11 November 1916. Found guilty, 12 December 1916, of being absent without leave, 12.00 am, 20 November, to 5.00 pm, 23 November 1916: admonished by superior officer; forfeited total of 3 days' pay. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hopital, Bulford, 21 December 1916; transferred to Fargo Military Hospital, 22 December 1916 (venereal disease); discharged to unit, 30 December 1916. Admitted to Parkhouse Military Hopsital, Salisbury, 8 January 1917 (venereal disease); discharged to duty, 8 February 1917: total period of treatment for venereal disease, 50 days.
