Taken on strength, 7th Bn, Serapeum, 24 February 1916. Admitted to hospital (date not recorded; pneumonia); discharged to duty, 9 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 26 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 31 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 1 July 1916 (shell shock), and admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 2nd Australian Division Rest Station, 2 July 1916; to 13th Field Ambulance, 4 July 1916; to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station, 8 July 1916; to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 13 July 1916; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, 20 July 1916; discharged unfit, 21 July 1916; marched out to unit, 2 October 1916.

Admitted to 13th Casualty Clearing Station, 24 October 1916 (wound, left finger), and transferred to Ambulance Train No 2; admitted to 39th Casualty Clearing Station, 24 October 1916 (suspected dysentery); transferred to 4th General Hospital, Camiers, 27 October 1916; to England, 13 November 1916, and admitted to Edmonton Hospital (pyrexia, slight); transferred to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 15 November 1916; discharged to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 18 November 1916.
