Military Medal 'On the 24 - 25 September this N.C.O. displayed marked courage and energy in directing the work of his bearer squads - particularly between Hooge Tunnel and Birr Cross Roads, during intense enemy shelling between these points - Travelling continuously between the difficult posts under very heavy fire, this N.C.O. assisted very materially to maintain the Bearer services. Throughout he set a splendid example of courage and determination which inspired all ranks. During the action he was wounded but remained at his post and continued his work until relieved.'
