'For gallantry in action during the operations from 8th August to September 3rd, 1918, between HAMEL and CLERY on the SOMME. Bombardier MATHIESON and [25457] Gunner HOOPER are particularly keen and reliable gunners. In spite of heavy hostile fire they have manned their gun, displaying great devotion to duty and absolute disregard of personal safety.'
