Distinguished Conduct Medal 'From 25 February to 16 September 1918 as battalion pioneer sergeant, he has displayed great courage and devotion to duty. During operations with the battalion, he has been responsible for the delivery of ammunition to the front line, and his untiring efforts in this connexion have at times kept the outposts supplied at a critical time. On several occasions he organized carrying parties and voluntarily led them to the front line through heavy artillery barrages and when stretcher bearers were urgently required, acted in this capacity on return journeys.'
