Meritorious Service Medal

'This N.C.O. has been with the Battalion during the period 25th February, 1918 to night of 16th/17th September, 1918, and has acted in the capacity of Company Quartermaster Sergeant, carrying out the duties of that appointment in an extremely satisfactory manner. He has at all times whilst this Unit was in the line made two trips a day with the rations for his Company going right to forward positions, to ensure that the food of the Company was reaching its destination, and to assist in its distribution to various outlying posts. At times this has entailed passing through heavy fire, both artillery and Machine Gun. He has at all times and especially in 'hot' moments shown himself a fearless and capable soldier, and I strongly recommend that he be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.'
