Embarked Sydney, 30 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 19 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 December 1916; taken on strength, 56th Bn, 7 February 1917.

Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, 23 May 1917; transferred to 5th 5th Divisional Rest Station, 23 May 1917 (abscess, left arm); transferred to 2nd Divisional Rest Station, 16 June 1917; discharged to duty, 14 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 22 June 1917.

Wounded in action, 23 September 1917 (shrapnel wound, left leg), and admitted to 6th Field Ambulance, and same day to Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 35th General Hospital, Calais, 23 September 1917; to England, 25 September 1917, and admitted to Reading War Hospital, 26 September 1917; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 2 November 1917; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 12 November 1917.

Found guilty, hurdcott, 12 December 1917, of being absent without leave from noon 5.12.17 till 10 pm 12.12.17: awarded 10 days' confined to camp and forfeited 8 days' pay.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 30 January 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 14 February 1918; rejoined Bn, 21 February 1918.

On leave to United Kingdom, 1 January 1919; rejoined unit from leave, 22 January 1919.
