'Near BONY from 29th September to 2nd October 1918, this man showed great courage, initiative and devotion duty in pushing forward often under heavy machine gun and rifle fire from our advanced positions to places from which he could snipe enemy Machine Gunners. His work had most valuable results and his coolness and skill were a source of constant inspiration to all his comrades.'
