Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916.

Admitted to 1st Casualty Clearing Station, 9 July 1916 (heel blister); transferred to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 13 July 1916; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, 14 July 1916; to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 21 July 1916; rejoined unit, 12 August 1916.

Accidentally injured, 2 July 1917 (bursitis, right knee; soldier not to blame); admitted to 14th Field Ambulance, 6 July 1917; discharged to duty and rejoined unit, 10 July 1917. Admitted to 56th Casualty Clearing Station, 22 July 1917 (otitis media); rejoined unit, 7 September 1917.
