'On the night 29th September, 1917, near WESTHOEK while taking rations to GARTER POINT Driver MEALING showed remarkable coolness under very heavy shell fire. The limber pole broke, he checked the bolting team and repaired the pole under very heavy shell fire, thus enabling the rations to be safely delivered to the front line. Had he not acted in this way the teams would have been lost the limber totally destroyed and incalculable inconvenience caused by the loss of rations. His return journey was also through exceptionally heavy shelling.'
