Military Medal

'This man greatly distinguished himself on night of 4th/5th February, 1917, in the capture of STORMY TRENCH north east of GUEUDECOURT. During the counter attack against our left flank he immediately took charge of a bombing post when the N.C.O. was wounded. He took up his position on an elevated portion of the trench, at great personal risk and by his coolness and keen observation, and accurate fire direction greatly assisted in repelling and breaking up the attack. This man is extraordinarily brave, and expert in all his duties. I recommend him most strongly for distinction.'
