Military Medal

'This N.C.O. has repeatedly displayed great gallantry and devotion to duty. On the night of the 20th April 1917 at NORIEUL he and a linesman went out, under very heavy shell fire, to replace telephone lines. The linesman was severely wounded and this N.C.O. rendered "first aid" and restored communication single-handed. he returned to his Brigade Headquarters got a stretcher party, and assisted in carrying the wounded man to the dressisng station.'
