Military Medal

'On 12th October, 1917, East of YPRES for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action. This N.C.O., after his Officers and Senior N.C.Os had become casualties in the advance took charge of a party which was held up by Snipers and Machine Gun fire. While taking an observation of his position, he was shot through the leg but he made his way back through shell and rifle fire, reported to the C.O. Battalion and carried a message forward again. By this time, he was very weak from his wound and had to be sent away as a casualty. His courage and grit in carrying on under the circumstances were a fine example to his men.'
