Military Medal

'On 8th August, 1918, during the attack east of HAMEL, Private PATCH was employed as a Company Runner. In spite of heavy enemy fire and the difficulty of keeping direction owing to the heavy fog he successfully carried a number of important messages and on one occasion, after two runners had been killed by the enemy barrage while attempting to carry an important message, he volunteered and was successful in getting the message through. Throughout the operation he displayed great bravery and devotion to duty.'
