Military Medal

'On 9th August 1918 during the attack on enemy positions between the villages of VAUVILLERS and LIHONS this N.C.O. displayed the greatest bravery and much skill. Under heavy Machine Gun fire he skilfully led his section forward and successfully brought them to the objective. In doing this he was regardless of personal danger, and frequently exposed himself to heavy Machine Gun fire. His example was not only of the greatest value to his own section, but was inspiring to all around him, and served materially to encourage all ranks forward over a most difficult and dangerous area, and under most galling frontal and enfilade fire from the enemy.'
