Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.

Now, 25 August 1916, reported 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.Statement, Red Cross File No 2130301, 7809 Pte R.J. JONES, 60th Bn (patient, 1st London General Hospital, Camberwell, England), 28 March 1917: 'Informant states that on July 19 1916, at Fleur Bay (sic), Signaller Penaluna, E.B. was buried by a shell.'

Second statement, 3468 Pte J. BROWN, C Company, 60th Bn (patient, 3rd Southern General Hospital, Drill Hall, Oxford, England), 2 November 1916: 'Informant states that on July 19th. 1916 at V.C. Sap, below Armentieres[,] Pte Penaluna went over the parapet at 5 p.m. and was probably killed. Informant and another had volunteered for despatch carrying under fire, their places in pl. XI were filled by Pte. Penaluna and Pte. Rowe from Pl. X or XII. Before order was given to start, Informant and Pte. Penaluna said good bye in case anything happened. Pte. Penaluna and Pte. Rowe were told to stick to Lieut. Simpson (afterwards slightly wounded) in case of sending back messages. Informant saw Pte. Penaluna with the rest of the Company go over the top. Informant and Pte. Penaluna were signallers in C Coy.'
