Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack on St. Martin's Wood on 23rd August, 1918. When his company was held up before the enemy posts he worked round the flank and rear of their positions, capturing three machine guns and twelve prisoners. This enabled his company to advance, and he went up and down the line under machine gun fire, correcting and maintaining directions.'
