Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the advance near MORLANCOURT 29th July 1918. While in charge of a Lewis Gun this N.C.O. displayed great initiative and resource in bringing his gun into action, firing from the hip at a party of the enemy trying to escape, killing many and capturing the remainder. Later he did excellent work during the mopping up of enemy first line, capturing a machine gun and bayoneting the crew. His splendid spirit inspired the men to great efforts and undoubtedly went far towards making the operation so successful.'
