Military Medal

'For gallant and distinguished service in the Field when his Battalion was in the Line in front of STRAZEELE on 2nd May, 1918. Private PORTER ws Battalion Runner and was carrying a message to the front line when his right arm was broken by a piece of shell. Although suffering severely he continued his run until again blown up by a shell near the front line, when he was again wounded in the head, foot and right lung. His magnificent behaviour greatly inspired all ranks in the line who were being heavily shelled by the enemy at the time.'
