We were mounted - fixed bayonets - & charging the Turkish Redoubt from the rear. The Turks bobbed down into their funk holes so that we could not reach them & one of the must have shot him after we passed. I saw him fall - killed instantaneously - and the stretcher-bearers showed me the bullet afterwards which had flattened after passing in at his back.'
