Military Medal 'On 4th August, 1917, at NIEUPORT, the 16th Battery position was shelled from 3 to 5 p.m. with 5.9" about 150 shells falling during this period causing it to be evacuated. One of the shells struck a billet seriously wounding two men and burying them under a wall. Gunner PRICE, who was in another part of the building undressed, without waiting even to put his boots on, went immediately to the wrecked room and with three others set to work to dig out the wounded men. He continued at this work until they were released although several other shells burst immediately against the building. In so doing, for part of the time, he had to stand in his bare feet on hot bricks from the cook house fire, which was in this room. When the wounded had been evacuated, having learned that the dial sight of his gun had been taken to this room for safety when the gun pits were evacuated, he returned through the hostile shelling to the building and salved it. Throughout he showed the greatest bravery and devotion. He has always been noted for his utter disregard of hostile fire.'
