Military Medal 'In the attack on PERONNE on 1st September 1918 this N.C.O. took command of his Platoon when his Officer had been killed and all other N.C.O's had become casualties. He displayed great courage and initiative in leading and controlling his Platoon, and was of great assistance to his Company Commander. He organised and led a search party to bring in wounded from No Mans Land which was heavily swept by Machine Gun fire. Throughout the attack and afterwards until he was wounded he displayed untiring energy and set a splendid example to his men.'
