Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry during the assault on the enemy trenches near BULLECOURT on 3rd May 1917. Though seriously wounded in the lung he made his way into the captured trench and on being ordered to the rear carried a wounded comrade to the Aid Post through the hostile barrage. The effect of his unconcerned coolness was of a distinct value to the Infantry whose casualties were very severe.'
