Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. with four men was detailed to protect a machine gun post. About thirty of the enemy advanced to the attack, two men being shot; they run back. This N.C.O. with three men, pursuing them shot the officers and dispersed the rest, five others being killed and two woun ded. Others were hit, but escaped. Our casualties were nil.'
