Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. He led his company brilliantly under heavy flanking fire, and personally attacked a machine gun post, shooting the gunner and capturing the three other men and the gun. After gaining his objective, he proceeded to a tank which was on fire in the vicinity, and rescued several of the garrison. This was done under intense machine gun fire. He did splendid work.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 62 Date: Military Cross 'For marked gallantry and devotion to duty near Geneve, on nights 3rd-4th October 1918. The situation being obscure, he volunteered to carry out a personal reconnaissance of the newly aptured ground. On arrival in the firing line, he sent back valuable reports on the situation, and made a daring reconnaissance of the most advanced outposts under direct machine gun fire.'
