Military Medal 'On 4th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. This N.C.O. had charge of a Platoon and handled it excellently. He led his men forward under very heavy fire from Machine Guns and took his final objective displaying great coolness and courage. He set a fine example throughout. On one occasion, he went alone into the middle of the barrage area to dig out a buried Officer.'

This N.C.O. displayed great coolness and determination in an attack against an enemy Pill-box, from which the enemy were directing Machine Gun fire. He succeeded in capturing the Pill-box, largely owing to his own personal valour. In the work of consolidation, he gave invaluable assistance and his courage was a splendid example to his men.'
