'In the attack on Peronne on 1st September 1918, this officer led his company with great skill and gallantry to the attack. During the advance, noticing that the officer commanding and most of the officers of another company had become casualties, he at once amalgamated the two companies and continued the advance. Later, when a strong enemy point was inflicting many casualties on the left company, he led a flank attack on the point, capturing about 110 prisoners and allowing the advance to continue. During the final consolidation his courage and energy were an inspiration to his men.'
