Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty in action East of YPRES on 4th October 1917. As N.C.O. in charge of carrying parties, he organised dumps in the forward area and was instrumental in keeping his Company in supplies of ammunition, bombs etc. He also volunteered to get rations up to the front line over open country which was continuously shelled. He set a splendid example to his men and inspired them in a most difficult and dangerous task.'
