Admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 6 December 1916 (self-inflicted gun shot wound, left foot).

Tried by Field General Court Martial, 26 December 1916, on charge of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he at Armentieres on 6.12.16 carelessly wounded himself in the foot; found guilty; sentenced to 60 days' Field Punishment No 1.
