Military Medal 'In front of HAMEL - VILLERS BRETONNEUX. On the 9th August 1918, the area in the vicinity of this man's Battery received a considerable amount of shelling, frequently cutting the telephone wire. This man, on each occasion repaired the breaks, under fire, until it was impossible to further use the line over this area. A relay post was then established, this man with a total disregard of personal danger carried messages through the shelled area to his Battery for a considerable time. In doing this, he set a splendid example and was largely instrumental in enabling his Battery to engage the targets which the F.O.O. observed. His courage and devotion to duty are deserving of special recognition.'
